New Delhi: In ahead of, after China blocked bid to designate Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar India expressed confidence that the terror chief will be listed saying that Beijing knows terrorism is a challenge and that it operates from Pakistan. The official sources told India said that Pakistan is spending diplomatic capital in defending indefensible and termed its action “cosmetic”. The US is supportive of India and has assured that Pakistan will take action. China blocked India’s bid for the fourth time by putting “technical hold” on the Azhar’s listing.

While India is disappointed with China for blocking the bid it is still working with members of the sanction committee. Here Source saying this as “There is no bigger statement, half of UNSC co-sponsors proposal. Hold is not a block. We are optimistic,”.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj slammed the Congress over its allegation that China blocking the bid to name Azhar as a "global terrorist" was a diplomatic failure of the Narendra Modi government and said that the proposal was moved four times before but India got worldwide support only in 2019. In a series of tweets, Swaraj wrote that in 2009, when UPA was in power India was the lone proposer. However, in 2016, New Delhi’s proposal received was co-sponsored by USA, France and UK.

It is to be noted that after China blocked India’s bid to list Azhar Congress president Rahul Gandhi called Prime Minister Narendra Modi "weak" and "scared" of Chinese President Xi Jinping and had tweeted: “Weak Modi is scared of Xi. Not a word comes out of his mouth when China acts against India. NaMo's China Diplomacy: 1. Swing with Xi in Gujarat 2. Hug Xi in Delhi 3. Bow to Xi in China.”
