India, Malaysia Strengthen Military Cooperation in 10th Subcommittee Meeting

New Delhi: On 27th July, the Ministry of Defence announced the successful conclusion of the 10th meeting of the sub-committee on military cooperation between India and Malaysia, held in New Delhi.

The Indian delegation, headed by Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) of the Ministry of Defence, engaged in wide-ranging discussions with the Malaysian side, led by Maj Gen Dato‘ Khairul Anuar bin Abd Aziz, Assistant Chief of Staff of the Defence Operations and Training Division. During the meeting, they reviewed the existing defence cooperation and explored various initiatives to further expand bilateral defence engagements, focusing on mutual interests.

Notably, the Indian side emphasized the potential of the Indian defence industry to collaborate with the Malaysian Armed Forces on shipbuilding and maintenance plans. Looking ahead, the co-chairs deliberated on the forthcoming 12th Malaysia-India Defence Cooperation Committee (MIDCOM) meeting, scheduled to take place in India in September, at the level of Defence Secretary.

Both India and Malaysia reiterated their strong commitment to fully implement the enhanced strategic partnership, which is founded on mutual trust and understanding, shared democratic values, and respect for the rule of law. It is essential to highlight that the enhanced strategic partnership was originally established during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Malaysia in 2015.
