New Delhi: External Affairs Minister (EAM)  Dr.S Jaishankar, who is on a visit to Mozambique, said the time-tested and historic ties with Mozambique are strengthening and both sides are ready to take it to the next level.

EAM  Jaishankaralso declared the India-built Buzi Bridge to be practically inaugurated and cited it as a concrete illustration of the two countries' mutual support and friendship.

In response to his Thursday night meeting with the Indian diaspora at the reception held by the Indian High Commissioner in Maputo, Ankan Banerjee, he tweeted in series:  "It was nice to meet community leaders and friends of India at the High Commissioner's reception in Maputo this evening. ..."Highlighted the importance of our enduring and long-standing, growing relationship. And we're prepared to forward things....  Highlighted that India today speaks for the Global South as well as itself. ...Atmanirbhar Bharat is undergoing transformational changes that are changing our trajectory.

We will continue to abide by PM @narendramodi's Kampala principles and be led by the needs and interests of our partners in their pursuit of development and growth, He said.  He thanked the Indian community for helping to shape the image of our country overseas.

In a tweet regarding the bridge's opening, the Indian High Commission stated: "Thanks to the 132 km Tica-Buzi-Nova-Sofala Road project, the Buzi Bridge was virtually inaugurated by EAM @drsjaishankar. Another step towards enhancing ties between India and Mozambique.

Retweeting the tweet, EAM wrote: "A concrete illustration of our friendship and unity. will have an impact on so many people in Mozambique.

The 132 km Tica-Buzi-Nova-Sofala Road project includes the 670 m long bridge over the Buzi river. Since 2018, work on the project has been going on, costing US$118 million and being funded by the Exim-Bank of India.

Under the direction of WAPCOS, the Indian contractor AFLONS is carrying it out. The tropical cyclones Idai, Chalane, and Eloise caused a delay in the project. These factors compelled a growth in components that weren't originally planned for and an elevation of the platform quota.

Additionally, Covid-19 hindered progress, particularly with the import of supplies from India.

The project, which includes the bridge, will promote trade, the free flow of people and commodities, and increased socioeconomic development for the coastal district of Bzi.

According to a survey, Bzi, which is located in the administrative region of Nova-Sofala, has promise in the areas of agriculture, cattle, fishing, guano in the Estaquinha caverns, oilseed, and tourism in the Mwenhe-Mukuro Sanctuary.

From April 13 to 15, EAM Jaishankar will be in Mozambique, which is located on the southeast coast of Africa. This is the first time an Indian minister of external affairs has ever visited the country of Mozambique.

Together with the foreign minister of Mozambique, Veronica Macamo, EAM will co-chair the fifth session of the Joint Commission Meeting and make a call to the senior leadership.
