India's flag again hoisted in UN, became member of UNHRC with huge majority

New Delhi: India has once again been elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). India's tenure in UNHRC will be from 2022 to 2024. After becoming a member, India said it will continue to work for the promotion and protection of human rights through respect, dialogue and cooperation. UNHRC member states have been elected through secret ballots at the United Nations.

India's Permanent Mission to the United Nations (UN) tweeted about the election of a member of the UNHRC. He has written that India has been re-elected to UNHRC for the sixth time with a huge majority. Heartiest thanks to the members of the United Nations for expressing their faith in India. In another tweet, the Indian Mission said that we will continue to work for the promotion and protection of human rights through respect, dialogue, cooperation.

 

The Human Rights Council is a united nations body, which works for the protection of human rights all over the world. The Council was formed in 2006 through the United Nations General Assembly. Earlier, the UN Human Rights Commission used to do this. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) serves as the Secretariat of the Human Rights Council. Its headquarter is located in Geneva, Switzerland.
