India reach semi-finals of Thomas Cup after 43 years

The Indian men's badminton team defeated Malaysia 3-2 on Thursday to book a place in the semi-finals of the Thomas Cup after a long wait of 43 years. India had reached the semi-finals three times in 1952, 1955 and 1979. India had lost in the quarterfinals of the previous edition in 2020.  

India will take on the winner of the match between South Korea and Denmark in the semi-finals. Kidambi Srikanth, H Is Prannoy and the duo of Chirag Shetty and Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy have won their respective matches to advance to the semi-finals. World number 7 Lakshya Sen has lost his match.  

Some time ago, there were reports that the Indian men's team had made a great start by defeating Germany 5-0 in the Thomas Cup of Badminton, which began here on Sunday. World Championships bronze-medallist Lakshya Sen had defeated world number 64 Max Weiskirchen 21-16, 21-13 in straight sets. After the victory of lakshya, the Indian team had kept its rhythm in the doubles match also. The duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated the duo of Johns Rafi Jainsen and Marvin Seidel 21-15, 10-21, 21-13. After which world number 11 Kidambi Srikanth defeated Kai Shaffer 18-21, 21-9 and 21-11 in a match that lasted for three sets.
