New Delhi: On the ongoing confrontation with China in eastern Ladakh, India on Thursday said the early withdrawal of troops from the rest of the conflict in the region could pave the way for India and China to consider normalizing the situation and restore peace and harmony in the border areas. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said this in a weekly press conference held digitally.
He said such steps can only lead to progress in bilateral relations between the two countries. He said that with the early withdrawal of troops from these areas of eastern Ladakh, full peace and progress in bilateral relations can be ensured in the border areas. It may be recalled that the 11th round of top commander level talks between India and China was held on April 9. The executive machinery on border issues was met on 12th March.
It is believed that the next meeting of the executive machinery on discussion and coordination on border matters may be held soon. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, launched this year, had discussed the process of retreat of troops with his Chinese counterpart on April 30. In this regard, the Ministry had said that the exercise of retreat of soldiers has not yet been completed and should be completed soon.
