India and Sri Lanka have joined hands to promote Buddhism. India has announced a $15 million assistance to Sri Lanka to strengthen the Buddhist relations between the two countries. On Saturday, the External Affairs Ministry said on the India-Sri Lanka virtual bilateral summit. "With the long and civilizational and cultural heritage between the two countries, PM Modi has announced an assistance of US $15 million to promote Buddhism between the two countries," said AMT Narang, joint secretary, Indian Ocean Region Division."

At the same time, He said, "This grant will help individuals to increase the contact between the two countries in place of Buddhism. "Even after the ban of COVID-19, a successful virtual summit shows the leaders ' committed to taking forward bilateral relations," the Indian External Affairs Ministry said. The External Affairs Ministry informed that India and Sri Lanka are working towards strengthening bilateral financial assistance. India has expanded currency exchange security of $400 million in Sri Lanka's central bank to help in economic recovery and to get privacy from COVID-19 related disputes.

A statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs said that during the discussion, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Rajapaksa made a special mention of the cultural centre built with India's assistance in Jaffna. The centre is closely geared up and the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka has invited Prime Minister Modi for the inauguration. The ministry has said that PM Modi is hopeful that the temporary ban imposed by the Sri Lankan side on import of some products will be relaxed shortly. At the same time, there may be many changes.
