BALASORE (Odisha), Sept 13: India has achieved a notable milestone by successfully test-firing the Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VLSRSAM) for two consecutive days. The tests were conducted at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha, with both launches on September 12 and 13 confirmed as successful by defense sources.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) reported that the VLSRSAM missiles effectively intercepted high-speed, low-altitude aerial targets that simulated sea-skimming threats. This successful demonstration highlights the missile's precision and its ability to neutralize challenging targets.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the DRDO, Indian Navy, and all involved teams for their exceptional performance. He emphasized that this missile, featuring advanced technologies, will significantly enhance the capabilities of the Armed Forces.

For safety precautions, the Balasore district administration temporarily relocated 3,100 residents from six villages within a 2.5 km radius of ITR Launch Pad 3. These measures were implemented in collaboration with ITR authorities to ensure public safety.

The successful test on Thursday, which also involved engaging a low-altitude target, underscores the reliability of the VLSRSAM system and validates recent upgrades to its components. Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and DRDO Chairman, also extended congratulations to the teams involved in these critical tests.
