New Delhi: India on Sunday took over the reins of the UN Security Council for the month of August. Russian Ambassador to India Nikolay Kudashev tweeted that he was truly impressed by the agenda, including maritime security, peacekeeping, and anti-terror global issues. While fruitful and effective work is expected, French Ambassador to India Emmanuel Lenain said that we are committed to working with India on strategic issues such as maritime security, peacekeeping, and counter-terror, and maintaining a rule-based multilateral system.

 

 

On India's chairmanship of UNSC for August, former Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations Syed Akbaruddin said that our PM Narendra Modi will be the first Indian PM to chair the UNSC meeting. He also said that this is our eighth term on the UNSC.

In a video message on the eve of India's command of the powerful UN body of 15 countries, Ambassador TS Tirumurthy, the country's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said that it is a special honor for us to chair the Security Council in the same month, the month we are celebrating our 75th Independence Day. The first executive day of the Chairmanship of India will be held on Monday, August 2 when Tirumurthy will hold a press conference at the UN headquarters on the council function for the month.
