NEW DELHI: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Friday that India will continue to rely on the United States to address global economic challenges.

Before the ninth meeting of the India-US Economic Financial Partnership with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, she made these observations in her introductory remarks. The Finance Minister said, "We will continue to rely on the close cooperation of the US to confront the global economic difficulties, in a more coordinated manner and in strengthening multilateralism.

Sitharaman added that as a reliable ally, the US is a relationship that India appreciates greatly.  Our strong connections have been reinforced, through significant and frequent interactions between the Prime Minister of India President of the US and their commitment towards consolidating a strategic alliance.

\"We hope that mutual understanding we built will help us work together to advance our shared goals, including mitigating the existential risk of climate change, providing multilateral institutions, & addressing debt burdens faced by many developing countries," Yellen said in her opening remarks. 

Yellen had earlier arrived on a day-long visit to New Delhi. Both parties will cover topics of relevance at the meeting, such as supply chain resilience, the global economy, macroeconomic outlook, taxation, multilateral challenges, India-US cooperation at the G20 under India's leadership, and climate finance.

Earlier in the day, Yellen visited the Microsoft campus in Noida and spoke with members of the tech sector.
