New Delhi: National Security Agencies (NSA) from seven countries will participate in a first-of-its-kind regional dialogue on Afghanistan hosted by Delhi today, despite Pakistan and China's absence. The dialogue will focus on security-related issues and will be distinct from foreign-ministry-led talks. Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, as well as Russia and Iran, will send National Security Advisers or Secretaries of Security Councils to the Delhi meeting on Afghanistan.

This is the most countries that have participated in this format. Ajit Doval, India's National Security Advisor, will chair the meeting. Iran had previously hosted dialogues with a similar format. In recent months, India has participated in dialogue on Afghanistan at several regional and multilateral levels. India has frequent and intense interactions with the security establishments of Central Asian countries.

India took part in the G20 Afghanistan dialogue. NSA Doval also hosted a meeting of the BRICS countries on Afghanistan. In September of this year, the Russian NSA, along with top defence and intelligence officials, flew to India to discuss Afghanistan. According to sources, all of the participating countries recognise India's importance in Afghanistan. This is why they're putting so much effort into it. The consequences of what happened in these societies are causing considerable concern.
