NEW DELHI: The Center on Friday announced the release of the "Innovation Roadmap of the Mission Integrated Biorefineries," which was created by co-leads and active inputs from Brazil, Canada, the EC, and the UK. The initiative aims to increase international collaboration and the need for increased funding for Energy Research, Development, and Demonstration.

The need for increased funding for Energy Research, Development, and Demonstration (RD&D) during the next five years to jumpstart this objective and unleash a positive cycle of public and private investment, said Dr. Jitendra Singh, who is leading a high-level Joint Indian Ministerial Delegation of the Ministries of Power, New & Renewable Energy and Science & Technology in Pittsburgh.

TheMinister said, the "Innovation Roadmap of the Mission Integrated Biorefineries" seeks to fill the gap by identifying gaps and challenges in the current biorefining value chains, prioritising eight key actions to support the Mission, and directing the Mission's overall path in achieving its goal. He added that it offers policymakers a framework for developing a growing RD&D portfolio over the following five years, precise finance ideas across the full range of essential Biorefinery technologies, and pointers for immediate action.

The Minister revealed that a 10-ton per-day pilot facility in Panipat, Haryana, with integrated enzyme manufacturing is being built and will be operational by December 2022. The first indigenous technique for on-site enzyme manufacturing will be this. The Minister emphasised that a commercial 100 KL/day 2G ethanol plant that is anticipated to be operational by Q2 of 2024 has also planned to receive this indigenous enzyme from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).

The Minister emphasised the crucial role sustainable biofuels play in lowering greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the transportation industry. He said that India had supported R&D advancements in advanced biofuels and waste to energy technologies through the Department of Biotechnology.
