The 20th edition of the India-US joint military exercise, 'Yudh Abhyas' 2024, officially began on Monday at the Foreign Training Node in Mahajan Field Firing Ranges, Rajasthan. This year's exercise represents a notable expansion in scale and complexity, featuring increased troop strength and advanced equipment.

The Indian Army is participating with a battalion from the Rajput Regiment, comprising 600 personnel, alongside other arms and services. The US contingent, also numbering around 600, is represented by the 1-24 Battalion from the 11th Airborne Division based in Alaska.

The primary goal of this drill is to enhance the joint military capabilities of both nations for counter-terrorism operations within a sub-conventional scenario, as outlined under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. The exercise will also address operations in semi-desert conditions.

Key activities during the exercise include joint responses to terrorist actions, collaborative planning, and combined field training that simulate real-world counter-terrorism missions.

'Yudh Abhyas' 2024 aims to foster the exchange of best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures, enhancing interoperability and camaraderie between the Indian and US armies. This exercise also seeks to strengthen defense cooperation and further solidify the bilateral relations between the two nations.
