Team India captain Virat Kohli contributed 46 runs in the first innings. He also hit the half century in the second innings and scored 58 runs. In addition Cheteshwar Pujara scored an unbeaten century of 132 in the first innings. Captain Virat Kohli smashed 58 runs in 130 balls with the help of four fours . During his innings, he completed 500 runs in the ongoing Test series.

Taking about his record Virat became the first Indian to complete 4000 runs in overall Test matches played by him. Virat was playing a 39th Testmatch as a captain and has scored 4000 runs at an average of 65.57.

Virat Kohli, who is considered one of the world's top batsmen, has scored 544 runs from 4 matches in the ongoing series against England. For the first time, more than 500 runs have been scored in the Test series played by an Asian team captain in England.

Virat is the tenth player of the cricket world who has scored 4000 or more runs as captain in Test matches. As a captain, the maximum 8659 runs in Test matches are scored by former South African skipper Graeme Smith. Virat broke the record of West Indies legendary cricketer Brian Lara by completing 4000 Test runs in 65 innings. Lara scored 4685 runs in Test matches as captain; he touched 4000 runs in 71st innings. Virat Kohli has became the fourth Indian player to achieve 500 runs mark or in a Test series on foreign soil.
