New Delhi: In view of the worsening situation caused by corona infection, the Central government has lifted import duty on corona vaccine, medical oxygen, and related equipment. Not only this, instructions have been issued to customs officials to give priority clearance to important import consignments including life-saving drugs and oxygen equipment.

You must all know that there is a shortage of oxygen in the country. In a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on its availability, it was decided to remove import duty. In this case, the Finance Ministry informed that import duty of 10% on Corona vaccine and 5% duty on import of oxygen and related equipment and health cess have been withdrawn for three months. At the same time, medical oxygen is charged at five percent import duty. Let me tell all of you that the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has directed all the officers in this regard.

In a recent statement, the CBIC said, "Cases of corona infection are on the rise rapidly. In such a situation, it is very important that custom clearance is given on a priority basis to imported goods and equipment for the treatment of corona". Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, on the other hand, also tweeted. In a tweet, he said, "One step to fight corona will also be to ensure that sensitive equipment related to this epidemic reaches its destination at the earliest".
