tyle="text-align:justify">NEW DELHI: India, in this approach to counter the stress on the petroleum industry, has decided to follow a path which will make it a zero petroleum import country said the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari yesterday.

“We are going to develop this country where our import of petroleum will be zero. We are promoting alternative fuel like ethanol, methanol, bio-CNG…this will boost the rural and agriculture centre and create huge employment,”the Road Transport and Highways Minister said.

Though the prices of petroleum are low globally, things are not looking so good in India with the recent price hikes. Also the country is currently incurring a loss of around Rs 4.5 lakh crore which was earlier Rs 7.5 lakh crore.

Stressing about the acute problems of Agriculture sector, he also brought to notice how the cotton straw, wheat straw, rice straw and bagasse can be used for fuel generation. He also said that even municipal waste we can make ethanol. This “waste to wealth” approach is also presumed to save India’s 5 crore annually.
