New Delhi: The strength of the Indian Air Force is going to increase further as three more consignments of Rafale fighter jets will land at Ambala by early next week. In addition, 9 more fighter jets will land in India from France by mid-April. The Hasimara forward base in North Bengal will launch its operations with five fighter jets next month.

According to French and Indian diplomats, an IAF team has already reached the Merignac airbase in Bordeaux to finalize the date for the three Rafale jets to reach Ambala. India had ordered 36 Rafale Jets under the Government to Government deal to France in September 2016. The total cost was Rs 59,000 crore. The Golden Arrow Squadron at Ambala, IAF, has already inducted 11 Rafale aircraft into the Air Force between July 2020 and January 2021. These fighter jets have been operated in Ladakh Theatre, where the army has been on high alert since the beginning of May 2020 following a border standoff with China.

Dassault Aviation has already handed over seven more fighter jets to the IAF for training in France and France is to complete the delivery of 36 aircraft by the end of this year. Therefore, the remaining 6 Rafale aircraft will be delivered after April.
