A helicopter that belongs to the Indian Army crashed near Ranjit Sagar Dam lake in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district. A National Disaster Response Force team has been deployed to carry out search and rescue operations. Senior Superintendent of Police of Pathankot in Punjab Surendra Lamba said. "We have received information that an Army helicopter has crashed in the lake. We have rushed our teams to the spot," Lamba said.  There were no immediate reports of any casualty, he said, adding further details were awaited. The dam is located about 30 km from Pathankot in Punjab. 

The helicopter of the 254 Army Aviation Squadron took off from Mamun Cantt at 10:20 am. The helicopter was carrying out low-level sorties in the Ranjit Sagar Dam area when it crashed.

Earlier, in January, one pilot died after an Indian Army helicopter crashed in Kathua district's Lakhanpur near the Jammu-Punjab border. The HAL Dhruv helicopter crashed after developing a technical snag. A MiG 21 Bison aircraft had crashed in Rajasthan's Suratgarh while landing in January.
