Srinagar: Indian security forces have achieved great success against terrorists in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. In the last 24 hours, security forces have gunned down 5 terrorists in the encounter. Among them is Mehrajuddin alias Ubaid, the top commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen terror group, who was an old valley terrorist and an accomplice of Burhan Wani.

The encounter with terrorists in Pulwama in south Kashmir began on the night of Wednesday (July 7, 2021). Security forces launched a search operation in Pulwama after receiving inputs about the presence of two terrorists. Meanwhile, militants hiding in the house opened fire on the security forces. Security forces also first asked the militants to surrender but the firing continued on behalf of the terrorists. The security forces then retaliated and gunned down the two terrorists. The encounter started in the Jodar area of Kulgam in the early hours of Thursday (July 08). In the encounter, two Lashkar terrorists were killed in a joint operation between police and 01 RR. A total of 4 terrorists have been killed in the encounters in Pulwama and Kulgam.
In North Kashmir, top Hizbul Mujahideen commander Mehrajuddin Halwai alias Ubaid was killed by security forces in an encounter in Handwara. Inspector-General of Police, Kashmir region Vijay Kumar said Mehrajuddin was one of the old and dreaded Hizbul terrorists. Mehrajuddin was an accomplice of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani. The operation was carried out jointly by the police, army, and CRPF.
