The Indian Army has yet again confirmed its secularity and being above the communal politics. A day after Asaduddin Owaisi, the AIMIM chief spoke about the martyrs in Sunjuwan attack and associated their religious identity, General Officer Commanding-in-chief Northern Command Lt. Gen Devraj Anbu has reiterated the Indian Army’s stand on secularism.

“We don’t communalise martyrs, those making statement don’t know the Army well,” said Lt. Gen Devraj Anbu on Owaisi’s comments. He did not directly name Owaisi though. He was speaking at a press conference.

“Enemy is frustrated and is trying softer targets,” he said referring to the attacks on army camp which are carried out by militants who can not hit target on borders. Anbu also voiced his concern on social media’s use to engage the youth in terror activities and suggested it should be taken seriously.

Asaduddin Owaisi’s statement about five out of seven martyrs in the Sunjuwan attack being Muslim sparked controversy. “Out of the seven killed in Jammu, five were Kashmiri Muslims. However, nobody is saying anything now. This should be a lesson to those questioning the loyalties of Muslims and call them Pakistanis. We are laying down our lives for you,” he had said.
