Dehradun: A major accident took place once again in Chamoli in Uttarakhand. The glacier broke near the post of ITBP battalion in Sumana area of Niti Valley near the Indo-China border. The glacier collapse trapped a large number of people here, whom the army launched a rescue operation to save. According to reports so far, the army has rescued about 430 people, while eight people have been reported dead.

According to the Army, 8 bodies have been recovered so far. About 425 to 430 people are estimated to be trapped. Continuous relief and rescue operations are continuing. Senior Indian Army officials are present on the spot. According to the army, several glaciers in the Malari region from Surai Thota are reported to have fallen on the road. Two bodies were recovered at 7:30 a.m., while six bodies were recovered from the snow between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. Efforts are being made to ferry the injured to Joshimath Army Hospital in Sumana by air force helicopter.

Glacier broke in Joshimath Samuna area. People were present at the BRO camp, avalanches during snowfall trapped the people who were rescued. The avalanche occurred near Sumana Rimkhim at 4 pm on Friday. There has been continuous heavy rain and snowfall for the last five days. The road has been cut off at four to five places. There are army and workers' camps near the spot, who live there to build roads.
