New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence has entered into an agreement with Bharat Dynamics Limited to acquire 4,960 anti-tank guided missiles for the Indian Army at a cost of Rs 8,188 crore.

The ministry said that the range of missiles is 1850 meters, which can be driven from the ground as well as from the vehicle-based launcher, and the scheme is to be completed in 3 years. In the past few months, the department is going to finalize a series of procurement projects for the forces to enhance their overall combat capabilities. "The acquisition wing of the Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with the defense sector of Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) to supply 4,960 MILAN-2T anti-tank guided missiles to the Indian Army at a cost of Rs 1,188 crore," the department said in a statement.

The missiles are going to be produced by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) under license from France's defense major MBDA missile system. "These missiles can be fired from the ground as well as vehicle-based launchers," the ministry said. In addition, it is going to be deployed in the anti-tank role for both offensive and defensive operations. "The induction of these missiles will further enhance the operational preparedness of the armed forces. It is planned to be completed in three years," it said.
