Legendary badminton doubles coach Tan Kim Har of Malaysia has returned for a second term as the doubles coach of the Indian badminton team. The appointment of 50-year-old Kim has also been approved by the Sports Department on Friday. He has been given a four-year long contract till the 2026 Asian Games after breaking the contract with the Japanese team. Tan Kim Har was the doubles coach of Indian from 2015 to 2019 and now the department has signed him for a tenure of 5 years till 2026 Asian Games at a whopping salary of Rs.7 lakh per month.

In fact, he had a one-year contract with Japan. His contract is going to be extended further, but he has also been offered a four-year straight contract here, which he has also accepted. After the departure of 2012 Olympic silver medalist Mathias Bo from Denmark after the Tokyo Olympics, speculations were rife that he would occupy the vacant position and the Badminton Association of India was awaiting the ministry's nod.

In his first stint, Tan also played a key role in the growth of Indian doubles players Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy. Both the players have won the individual silver medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games under his guidance as well as the team gold medal. Satwik and Chirag say that despite their initial reluctance, it was Tan who made them pair up with Chirag. They were both unwilling to play on the front court, but Tan held the pair together. Their coming will be of great benefit.
