New Delhi: The dates of assembly elections in Delhi have been announced today. Votes will be cast on 70 assembly seats in Delhi, the capital of the country, on 8 February. All seats will be voted in one phase. The results of this election will come on 11 February. Chief Election Commissioner of India, Sanil Aroane today said that with the announcement of election schedule in Delhi, the code of conduct has come into force in Delhi.
It is noteworthy that out of the 70 assembly seats in Delhi, 12 seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes. According to Election Commission data, Delhi has 1.46 crore voters. For which 13,750 polling booths have been set up. Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had won a record 67 seats in the 70-member assembly in the last assembly elections held in 2015. The remaining three seats came in the account of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Congress account was also not opened.
However, in the Municipal Corporation elections held after the 2015 assembly elections, the BJP made a spectacular performance and formed its government in the three corporations of Delhi. After this, even in the 2019 elections, the ruling AAP of Delhi could not win any of the 7 Lok Sabha seats. In many seats, even the bail of AAP candidates was confiscated. However, the performance of the Congress was better than AAP and its vote percentage was also increased.
