NEW DELHI: The Indian External Affairs Ministry has flatly rejected US President Donald Trump's claim that PM Modi had sought his help on the Kashmir issue. The Foreign Ministry reacted to Trump's statement, saying there was no such request from Trump. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar has briefed on the matter.
Ravish Kumar said in his statement that "we have seen the statement made by US President Donald Trump in the press in which he has said that he is ready to mediate on the Kashmir issue if requested by India and Pakistan." PM Modi has not made any such request to the US President. Ravish Kumar further said, "India stands by that there should be only bilateral talks with Pakistan on all issues. Pakistan should first eliminate cross-border terrorism. The issues will be resolved only under the Shimla Accord and the Lahore Declaration. "
Earlier, media reports had reported that Trump had offered mediation on the Kashmir issue. Trump also lied to Pakistan's PM Imran about PM Modi. Trump has claimed that India's PM Narendra Modi had also sought help in resolving the Kashmir issue. As a matter of fact, India is totally against third-party mediation on Kashmir. India has never accepted any mediation.
