New Delhi: The Government of India has dismissed media reports that the TATA group has won the bid for Air India. Earlier, Bloomberg had claimed in its report that the Tata Group has once again subjugated Air India after 68 years. The government has said that no decision has been taken in this regard so far.

Bloomberg had stated in its report, "The panel has selected tata group for Air India. Tata Group as well as SpiceJet's Ajay Singh had bid for Air India. Media reports claimed that after 68 years, Air India has once again been owned by the Tata Group. However, the Government of India has now denied the claim while issuing a statement and said that a final decision in this regard has not yet been taken.''

JRD Tata founded Tata Airlines in 1932. Air services were banned during World War II. When air services were restored, Tata Airlines was renamed Air India Limited on July 29, 1946. In 1947, 49 per cent of Air India's stake was taken by the government. It was nationalized in 1953. The government passed the Air Corporation Act and purchased ownership rights from the company's founder JRD Tata. It was then renamed Air India International Limited.
