Today is Father's Day. This day has come into existence now, but the relationship between father and child and its different forms has been described in our scriptures for a long time. Today, on Father's Day, we are going to tell you the important story related to the mythical father-son.
1. Pitru bhakti in Mahabharata: Devavrata, the mighty and learned son of Hastinapur King Shantanu, was his natural successor, but one day Shantanu met Nishad Kanya Satyavati and he was fascinated on her. He met Satyavati's father and asked for her hand. The father made a condition that I can allow this marriage only if the son of my daughter should be the heir to the throne. Shantanu could not do such injustice to Devavrata. He returned with a heavy heart but became distraught at Satyavati's disconnection. His health began to decline. When Devavrata finds out the reason for his father's sorrow, he goes to meet Satyavati's father and assures him that only the son of Satyavati will become the emperor after Shantanu.
After that Nishad said that you are giving up your claim, but in the future, your children will not cause trouble for the children of Satyavati, what is the confidence of this. Then Devavrata assured him that such a situation would not arise and he vowed there that he will not marry lifelong. On this, Nishad agreed to give Satyavati's hand to Shantanu. When Shantanu came to know about his son's promise, he gave him the boon of willful death and said that because of his promise, he is known as Bhishma.
2 Pitra bhakti of Rama-Dasaratha: Lord Shri Ram was the worthy successor of Ayodhya. Being the eldest son of the emperor, it also became his right, but the father's order was more than all the royal comforts for him. Therefore, knowing his command, Ram was ready to go to the forest without any question, without guilt or egoism. Dasharatha himself had immense affection for Shri Ram, but he was bound by the word. On the one hand, the son was love, on the other hand, the duty to fulfill the promise given to Kaikeyi. In this duel, victory was done and Dasaratha filled the heart with the order of exile to Ram. After that, Ram obeyed the father's command and turned to the free forest, but Dasharatha's ancestral heart could not bear the son's dissociation and injustice was done to him, and eventually, he renounced the world, taking the name of Rama.
