Indian Navy INS Sandhayak declares retirement today after 40 years of service

New Delhi: The Indian Navy ship Sandhayak will be serviced today. After serving the country for 40 years, the INS Evening Discharge Ceremony will be held at Naval Dockyard Visakhapatnam. The function will be attended by only in-station officers and sailors due to corona guidelines.

Corona rules will be strictly followed during the programme. The ship was conceived by the then Chief Hydrographer, Rear Admiral FL Fraser, who also designed and built the hydrographic survey vessel in the country. State that after the finalization of the design by the Navy Headquarters, the construction of the ship started in kolkata in the year 1978 GRSE laying a nail.

The ship was commissioned into the Indian Navy on February 26, 1981 by Vice Admiral MK Roy, the then Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command (ENC). According to media reports, the ship has been alma-mater since its commissioning. At the same time, INS Sandhayak has played a very important role in laying the foundation for full hydrographic coverage of peninsular water. Designing the ship was a major success, paving the way for all survey ships of the Indian Navy in recent amendments.
