New Delhi: Recently, the Indian Navy inducted the sixth squadron of Dornier patrol aircraft in Porbandar city of Gujarat on Friday. The deployment of these aircraft in this region of very important strategic position close to the border with Pakistan will give a new boost to coastal security. After the deployment of this squadron, now the Indian Navy will be able to easily monitor even the smallest activity of Pakistan in the sea area here. 

Deputy Chief of Naval Staff Vice-Admiral MS Pawar inducted this new squadron of Dornier aircraft into the Navy. The Indian Navy Air Squadron 314, known as 'Raptor', will now operate with four next-generation Dornier aircraft. Vice-Admiral Pawar, inducting them, said, to strengthen maritime security and enhance surveillance in the North Arabian Sea The inclusion of INAS 314 in our efforts is another milestone.

According to information received from sources, he said, because of its strategic position, this squadron will be the first to respond to any activity in this important area. The statement issued by the Navy stated that the command of INAS 314 Squad will be in the hands of Captain Sandeep Rai, who is highly experienced in various complex operations and is a Dornier qualified navigation instructor. These Dornier aircraft, prepared in Kanpur, are multi-role SRMR (short-range maritime reconnaissance) aircraft included in the squadron, according to the Navy. These aircraft, powered with dual turboprop engines, have been manufactured at the Kanpur unit of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

Navy ordered HAL to purchase 12 Dornier aircraft under the 'Make in India' campaign, out of which this first shipment of four aircraft has reached. Right now 8 such aircraft and navy will be given. These aircraft have been fitted with state-of-the-art sensors and equipment, including glass cockpit, advanced surveillance radar, optical sensor and advanced networking features.
