Haryana's discus thrower Sandeep Kumari secured the qualifying mark for the Asian Games at the National Inter-State Athletics Championship, but she could not go to Jakarta because her acquisition was not done.

Kumari won gold with a distance of 58.41 meters, while Qualification mark was 57 meters. The Indian Athletic Association (AFI) official said, "The last date for sending the names of athletes has passed. We sent about 300 athletes for accreditation and did not have the name in it. Now we can not do anything. She had not participated in any major event in the last five years, so we did not have the idea that she could qualify."

Five athletes, including top Indian Sprinter Odisha's Dutti Chand, qualified for Asian Games in their respective competitions at the Athletics Championships. Dutti secured his place for Asian Games with 23:46 sec in qualifying heat for the final round of women's 200 meters race.
