New Delhi: Indian Railways has asked the cement companies to unload their goods from goods trains, so that they can be used to supply essential goods in different parts of the country. Sources said that with the lockdown being implemented, the railways is using around 50-60 racks per day to deliver food grains, but the demand is high.

He said that at present there are about 300 freight trains loaded with cement sacks and cement companies are in no hurry to unload them due to the halt of construction activities due to Coronavirus epidemic. Officials said that the railways have waived the duty imposed on the delay in unloading the goods, so companies are not suffering any loss due to non-delivery of goods. They said that we have told them that if they do not take off their goods in a day or two, we will charge them.

Officials said that in view of the huge demand for essential commodities in the country and due to the reduced movement of goods by road, it is necessary to free these goods trains for the supply of essential commodities like fruits, vegetables, food grains, salt and sugar. Sources said that the railways are in touch with the state officials to ensure that their goods trains are dispatched on time.
