New Delhi: It may take longer to realize PM Modi's dream of ambitious bullet train project between Ahmedabad to Mumbai. It is also possible that the country's first bullet train did not run between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Railway Board Chairman VK Yadav said on Saturday that the Indian Railways would start the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project in a phased manner in view of the delay in land acquisition in Maharashtra.

Yadav said that there are some hurdles in the work of the 508 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail. These barriers are linked to the farmers' movement in Maharashtra and the state government. However, work on the bullet train project in Gujarat is proceeding at its full speed. Yadav said that if there is a delay in land acquisition, then in such a situation, the Railway Ministry has planned to run the bullet train to Vapi in Gujarat in the first phase.

Yadav further said that the Maharashtra government has assured the railways that 80 per cent land acquisition for the bullet train project will be completed in the next four months. He said that once this happens, we can start work on the entire line simultaneously and then the bullet train of both the states can be run simultaneously. We will get the full picture in the next four months and then determine whether the commission will be done in phases or at once. However, if land acquisition in Maharashtra is delayed, a distance of 325 km will be set up to Vapi. This decision will be taken in four months.
