New Delhi: Railways had hiked platform ticket prices to prevent undue congestion at stations due to the corona epidemic. The decision was widely criticized across the country. But now the Railways have now reduced the price of platform tickets at 11 stations in the division including Jabalpur. For which now Rs. 20 will have to be paid instead of Rs. 50.

According to the same West Central Railway, platform tickets at Jabalpur, Madan Mahal, Katani, Katani Mudwara, Maihar, Satna, Rewa, Sagar, Damoh, Narsinghpur, and Piparia will now have to pay Rs 20. Earlier, platform tickets of Rs. 50-50 at Jabalpur and Madanmahal and Rs.30-30 at other stations had to be purchased. However, at many other stations including the state capital Bhopal, only Rs 30 to Rs 50 is still being charged for platform tickets.

The same happens sometimes when relatives who come to drop passengers go inside the station without a platform ticket. This leads to undue congestion and loss of revenue. This can be worse as the coronavirus increases. To deal with the situation, Railways have fixed a penalty of up to Rs 500 for being caught without platform tickets. On the other hand, if you have to travel suddenly and you have not been able to get tickets for any reason, having a platform ticket will solve your travel woes.
