New Delhi: Indian Railways is one of the largest railway networks in the world. It has about 14 lakh employees. In view of its vastness, the Railways have decided to build their own force. Now, the Railways will also have its own commando force. The commando squad will be launched on the occasion of Independence Day. Railways have trained 1200 commands in different parts of the country for better safety and property protection. These include women and male commandos. The commando force of the Railway Protection Force will come into existence on 14th August.

On Wednesday, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal will make an official announcement after observing the performance of the commandos at the Officers' Club at State Entry Road at Connaught Place. According to railway officials, these commandos will be deployed in Kashmir, the northeastern state and other naxal affected areas. They will also protect the property of the Railways. Earlier, the Railways used to take the help of another para military force. The RPF team was also present in civil dress in Naxal and disturbed areas. The Railways have named it Korus (Commando for Railway Security).

RPF officials hope to open their railway commando training centres where such training is imparted. With the opening of the training centre, more commando forces will be created. Railway Police Force personnel will also be given better training. Railways are often targeted because of its lax security arrangements. From naxalites to many non-social elements, they target it. The force will help in Kashmir, the North-Eastern state and the naxal affected areas.
