New Delhi: Lakhs of railway employees across the country will protest for a week from today against several government policies such as monetization of Indian Railway properties, handing over Indian trains to private institutions. Railway employees are participating in the protest week on the call of the national institute of railway employees, the National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR). Under this, railway personnel in all railway zones will hold large-scale protests and rallies from today till September 18.

Dr. M. Raghuvaiya, General Secretary, NFIR expressed concern over the government's decision to privatize properties in railways and hand over trains to private institutions and said it was not in the interest of the nation and railway employees. He said the monetization policy announced by the government reflects the sale of mega public properties under government charge, including Indian Railways, in all major sectors.

He further said that the government has failed to recognize the role of Indian Railways, which is the lifeline of the nation, as it provides services to all sections. He said that more than 2.30 crore people in India travel by train daily and Indian Railways has achieved significant feats by transporting more than 1233 million tonnes of goods between the Covid-19 epidemic in 2021-22 and ensured uninterrupted supply lines across the nation. Instead of rewarding the Indian Railways and its workforce, the government intends to resort to the monetization of property to benefit some individual monopolistic.
