Prior the Rio Olympics kickoff; awards by some of Indian authorities have been announced.Yesterday; IBJA has announced gold and silver awards for Indian medal winners.

While, today Indian Railways has announced a cash award of one crore rupees for its athlete who wins a gold medal at the Rio Olympics.

In 2016's Rio Olympics,35 athletes from Indian Railways are taking parts.

According to the statement by Railway Ministry, “the silver medallist will get 75 lakh rupees and bronze medal winner 50 lakh rupees. For the athletes who manages a top-8 finish, the reward will be 30 lakh rupees and for mere participation 5 lakh rupees”

It further added, “Rio Olympics is a testimony to the effort that Railways has put in promoting and supporting sports in India"
