Railways' New Offer: Drop Plastic Bottle in Crusher & Get ₹ 5 in Return

NEW DELHI: Plastic bottles lying vacant in railway stations and train compartments will soon become a matter of tomorrow, because the railways have been making T-shirts and hats from these empty plastic bottles of water, and the Railways have decided to collect the bottles for the purpose. They also announced that those who deposit the plastic bottle will get Rs.5 per bottle.

The move is expected to go a long way in preserving the environment. A reverse vending machine has been installed at four stations of East Central Railway, Patna Junction, Rajendranagar, Patna Sahib and Danapur station, crushing plastic bottles of water to produce T-shirts and hats.

According to media reports, Former Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Rajesh Kumar has said that the East Central Railway is now preparing T-shirts with plastic bottles of wastewater lying idle at railway stations. Plastic stokers fitted with bottle crusher machines at railway stations will be used to make T-shirts. He further added that these T-shirts will be wearable all season. Railways have tied up with a Mumbai-based company to make T-shirts and will soon be made available to people in the market.
