New Delhi: As the festive season draws near, Indian Railways has announced plans to run nearly 6,000 special trains to accommodate over one crore passengers traveling home for Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath festivals.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared that additional general coaches have been added to 108 trains, and a total of 12,500 coaches have been sanctioned to manage the surge in passenger numbers during the festive period. Routes to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal typically experience heavy demand during this time.

Vaishnaw confirmed that 5,975 special trains have been notified for this year's festivities, a significant increase from the 4,429 special trains operated last year. He stated, "This will facilitate more than one crore passengers to go home during this puja rush." This year's Durga Puja is set to begin on October 9, followed by Diwali on October 31, and Chhath Puja on November 7 and 8.
