Indian Rupee falls 3 paise to close at 74.90 against USD

The Indian rupee lagged behind by 3 paise to end at 74.90 against the US Dollar on Friday, weighed down by a subdued trend in equity markets and strong crude oil prices. At the interbank Foreign exchange market, the local currency which opened at 74.82 after witnessing an intra-day high of 74.69 and a low of 74.94 against the U.S. dollar, finally settled at 74.90 a dollar, down 3 paise over its previous close. On Thursday, the rupee had settled on a flat note at 74.87 against the U.S. dollar.

On the share market front, the BSE Sensex ended 101.88 points or 0.17 percent lower at 60,821.62, while the broader NSE Nifty declined 63.20 points or 0.35 percent to 18,114.90. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading 0.18 percent down at 93.60.

Foreign institutional investors were net sellers in the capital market on Thursday, as they offloaded shares worth Rs2,818.90 crore, as per exchange data.

Gold Watch: New Delhi: Gold in the national capital on Friday rose Rs 158 to Rs 46,678 per 10 grams in line with strong international precious metal prices. In the previous trade, the precious metal had settled at Rs 46,520 per 10 grams. Silver also jumped Rs 180 to Rs 64,210 per kg, from Rs 64,030 per kg in the previous trade. In the international market, gold was trading in the green at USD 1,794 per ounce and silver was flat at USD 24.35 per ounce.
