Indian rupee settles at 74.43 against the US dollar, down 4 paise

Following a positive trend in local equities and faling crude oil prices, the Indian rupee recovered most of its initial losses and finished 4 paise lower at 74.43, provisionally, against the US dollar on Tuesday, November 23.

The local currency opened at 74.48 against the US dollar on the interbank Forex market, and witnessed an intra-day high of 74.38 and a low of 74.57 during the dat. It eventually settled at 74.43 against the US dollar, down barely 4 paise from its previous closing of 74.39.

Meanwhile, in the Indian equity market, the BSE Sensex ended the day 198.44 points or 0.34 percent higher at 58,664.33, while the broader NSE Nifty ended the day 86.80 points or 0.5 percent higher at 17,503.35.

The global oil benchmark, Brent crude futures, declined 0.97 percent to USD78.93 per barrel.

The dollar index, which measures the value of the dollar against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.14 to 96.41. According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors were net sellers in the capital market on November 22, offloading shares worth Rs.3,438.76 crore.
