Sandesh Jhingan is still one of the biggest names in Indian football but there was a period when this star defender was turned down by the club of the third division which also inspired him to work hard. Jhingan has played 36 matches for India so far, revealed that he was rejected by several clubs in the second and third division in one round in Kolkata. Speaking to AIFF TV, Jhingan said, "This was the beginning of my career. I wanted to join a club then and I gave trials for many clubs in Kolkata. Among them were clubs from the second and third divisions. But everyone rejected me."

He said, "After that, I realized that I have to work hard to make my dream come true."Jhingan was accepted by the United Sikkim Football Club in its team. He said, 'It was really like a dream come true for me. Two months ago, I was rejected by many clubs in Kolkata and now I was getting along with Renedy Singh and Baichung Bhutia." This footballer said, "We used to practice under the supervision of coach Stanley Rozario. When Renedy Singh was talking about some freekick. I was feeling as if I would kiss his feet. When I shook hands with Baichung Bhutia, I thought that I'll not wash my hands for days".

Jhingan said that "The most memorable moment of my career was when I took over the captaincy of the country for the first time. He said, 'When you are captaining a country with a population of one billion 300 million people, then there is a lot of pressure on you. Everyone's eyes are fixed on you. A lot is at stake but I enjoy such moments. It is a great honour to wear the captain's armband."
