NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his warm greetings to the Indian team for their triumph in the Asian Kabaddi Championship, securing a resounding victory over Iran with a score of 42-32 in the thrilling final held at the Dong-Eui Institute of Technology Seokdang Cultural Center.
PM Modi took to Twitter to express his delight, saying, "Heartiest congratulations to our extraordinary Kabaddi team for clinching their 8th Asian Kabaddi Championship title! Their exceptional performances and exemplary teamwork truly embody the essence of sportsmanship. Wishing them the very best for their future endeavors."
This remarkable achievement marks India's eighth title in the past nine editions of the championship, while Iran secured the championship title once in 2003.
Initially trailing Iran in the opening five minutes of the match, India quickly turned the tide with commendable tackles by the defenders and successful raids led by Pawan Sehrawat and Aslam Inamdar, ultimately forcing Iran into their first All-Out of the match in the 10th minute.
Maintaining relentless pressure on the Iranian team, India executed another All-Out, ending the first half with a commanding lead of 23-11.
In the second half, all-rounder Mohammadreza Chiyaneh made valiant efforts for the Iranian side, scoring a two-point raid followed by a remarkable super raid that resulted in India's first All-Out in the 29th minute.
With both teams displaying unwavering determination in this electrifying contest, India held on to secure a well-deserved 42-32 victory.
