PARIS: In preparation for the Bastille Day Parade on July 14, the Indian Tri-Services contingent, consisting of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, conducted practice sessions in France. The Indian Army contingent's participation in the Bastille Day celebrations is well underway, with troops fully engaged in their preparations.

Speaking about the Indian Tri-Service contingent's involvement in this year's Bastille Day Parade, Indian Navy Commander Prateek Kumar expressed, "It is not only a matter of great pride for our armed forces but also for the entire Indian nation to be represented at the Bastille Day, an esteemed event hosted by the French government. We are delighted to be here as a unified tri-service contingent, comprising the Army, Navy, and Air Force."

On Monday, the Indian Army took to Twitter to share a video of the marching contingent, emphasizing, "The participation of the Indian Armed Forces Contingent testifies to the century-old bond and affiliation between our armies and nations."

"This occasion reminds us of the valor and courage demonstrated by Indian soldiers on French soil during the World Wars," tweeted the Indian Army.

On Sunday, the Indian Tri-Services contingent held practice sessions in France in preparation for the Bastille Day parade on July 14.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited by President Emmanuel Macron of France to attend this year's parade as the guest of honor.

The tri-services contingent of the Indian Armed Forces, en route to France since Thursday, will march alongside their French counterparts. According to the Ministry of Defence, the Bastille Day Parade will feature a 269-member tri-services contingent from the Indian Armed Forces marching in unison with their French partners.

Bastille Day, also known as Fete Nationale Francaise, is celebrated on July 14th in France to commemorate the historic storming of the Bastille in 1789, a significant event during the French Revolution.

The Ministry highlights that the alliance between the Indian and French Armies traces back to World War 1. During the war, more than 1.3 million Indian soldiers joined the conflict, with approximately 74,000 making the ultimate sacrifice and 67,000 sustaining injuries in the treacherous trenches. These brave Indian troops fought gallantly on French soil.

This year holds special significance as both nations mark the 25th anniversary of their Strategic Partnership. The armies of India and France have engaged in joint exercises, fostering a strong bond through the exchange of military expertise. Over time, the two countries have become trusted defense allies, cementing their partnership.
