Kashmiris to not get relief from cold yet, snowfall likely forecasts Meteorological Department

Srinagar: Ladakh, including the Kashmir Valley, had a freezing cold on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted light snowfall in some parts of the city from February 1. The people living here are experiencing the coldest weather this time in recent decades. It has been revealed in the data that after several years, the minimum temperature has remained below the freezing point for some 50 days.

Sonam Lotus, director of the Meteorological Department, has said that 'It will be cloudy between 1 to 4 February. On January 31 and February 1, light snowfall may occur in some parts of the region. Light to moderate snowfall may occur in some areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on February 2 and 3. Also, 'Chillai Kalan' will end on 31 January. It is a condition of cold, shivering, which lasts for 40 days. The locals here call it by this name.

The minimum daytime temperature in Srinagar has been recorded at minus 7.2 degrees. While in Pahalgam and Gulmarg, the temperature was recorded at minus 12.5 and 10 degrees Celsius respectively. The nighttime minimum temperature in Leh city of Ladakh is recorded at minus 17.6 degrees Celsius, minus 20.2 degrees Celsius in Kargil, and minus 27.2 degrees Celsius in Drass.
