On Friday, India was defeated 1-6 by Brazil in the opening game of the Women's International football tournament at the Amazon Arena in Manaus, Brazil, with Manisha Kalyan's goal in the eighth minute being the only bright spot in the humiliating defeat. India gained some positives from Kalyan's equaliser, as well as goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan's performance on a night when the hosts were in fine form.
The hosts got off to a fast start, taking the lead in the first minute when defender Daiana's long pass found skipper Debinha, whose initial effort was stopped by Chauhan, but the Indian goalkeeper was powerless to save the rebound.
Seven minutes later, the Indian ladies surged back with a sensational counter-attack to tie the game. Manisha took the ball on the left side of the field in her own half and went the length of the field before finishing clinically in the far post bottom corner. In the 26th minute, Manisha had another chance to put India ahead on a counter-attack, but her effort was blocked.
Brazil improved their chances and took the lead in the 36th minute when Ariadina 'Ary' Borges went down the right side and found Duda with a cutback. Giovana Costa was on hand to slide the ball into the net after it bounced off.
