VARANASI: At the Y20 summit held in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur, emphasized India's pivotal role as the host of the G20. He highlighted that India plays a crucial part in shaping discussions and fostering collaboration among member countries. Thakur acknowledged the weight of responsibility that accompanies this role, as decisions made during this summit can significantly impact billions of lives across the globe.

Thakur projected the dominance of youth in the global demographic by 2030, particularly from South Asia. He stressed the shared responsibility of this youthful population in influencing global narratives and collectively working towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Underscoring India's accomplishments over the past nine years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Thakur noted that India had ascended to the fifth position among the world's largest economies, a remarkable leap from its previous tenth position. He emphasized the country's distinct advantage of having the largest young population, foreseeing this demographic dividend propelling India to become the world's third-largest economy.

Scheduled for September 9-10 at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam convention centre in Pragati Maidan, the G20 Summit is anticipated to gather heads of state and diplomats from various nations, including luminaries like US President Joe Biden, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and French President Emmanuel Macron. The upcoming 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit in Delhi is set to conclude the series of G20 processes and meetings that have taken place throughout the year, involving ministers, senior officials, and civil societies.
