India's daily COVID-19 cases surge 30 pc in last 24 hours

New Delhi:  India has seen 13,154 new cases of the novel coronavirus, with 268 deaths as a result of the infection, in the last 24 hours. According to data released on Thursday by the Union Health Ministry, the country saw a total of 7,486 discharges in the last 24 hours, bringing the total recovery rate to about 98.40 percent, the highest since March 2020, and total recoveries data to 3,42,58,778.

In addition, the total number of Omicron cases has now reached 961, including 263 cases in Delhi and 252 in Maharashtra. According to government data released today, the overall number of active COVID-19 cases in India has risen to 82,402. So far, the Nationwide Vaccination Drive has administered about 143.83 crore vaccine doses. The country's total death toll today stands at 4,80,860. The first death from the COVID epidemic was recorded in India in March 2020.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) reports that 67,64,45,395 samples have been tested for COVID-19 as of December 29. On Wednesday, 11,99,252 of these samples were examined.

Meanwhile, Kerala reported 2,846 new COVID-19 infections and 211 deaths on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases to 52,30,249 and the number of deaths to 47,277. Twelve of the 211 deaths were registered in the previous few days, with 199 being designated as COVID-19 deaths following appeals based on the Centre's new guidelines and the Supreme Court's directives.
