H3N2 VIRUS KARNATAKA: In light of the increasing number of H3N2 cases, India on Friday reported the infection's first death in Karnataka. The 82-year-old man died due to the H3N2 virus on March 1, said an health department official

An official from the Health Department reported on Friday that an 82-year-old man had become the first H3N2 virus victim in Karnataka. The District Health Officer of Hassan, confirmed about the death.

The H3N2 influenza claimed the life of Hire Gowda, the 82-year-old son of Halage Gowda, on March 1. The officer also disclosed that the elderly man had comorbid conditions like diabetes and hypertension. He was admitted to the hospital on February 24 after getting the illness, and on March 1 he died. His test sample was sent. His viral infection was determined to have occurred on March 6. In response to the increasing cases, state health minister Dr. K. Sudhakar met with the authorities to discuss how to deal with the rise in H3N2 virus infections.

The department is screening 25 cases of Sari and ILI in Victoria and Vani Vilasa Hospitals to keep track of the variants, and the Central Government has set a goal of 25 tests every week in its guidelines.

The infection is contracting children more than adults. The virus tends to infect people more easily under the age of 15. The Minister informed reporters following the meeting that in addition to the younger population, the virus is also infecting people over 65. Pregnant women, in addition to elderly people and children, are vulnerable to the infection. Cleanliness, avoiding crowded areas, and practising good hand hygiene are some ways to stop the transmission of infection.
