India's preventive healthcare sector, which encompasses early diagnostics, foods and supplements, fitness and wellness, and health tracking among other things, is expected to reach USD 197 billion by 2025, or 36 percent of the country's total healthcare market, said a report on Thursday.

India has historically prioritised curative treatment as opposed to preventive care, according to a report by strategy consulting firm Redseer Strategy Consultants in partnership with Chiratae Ventures and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Preventive care, on the other hand, has gained more significance in India after the Covid-19 outbreak, expanding at a CAGR of 22 percent from 2022 to 2025 compared to 15 percent for the curative sector.
According to a survey of more than 1,000 people, at least 40 percent of the participants had a strong preference for preventative health. A second poll of more than 300 health-conscious people (HCIs) revealed that they regularly monitor several facets of their health, including lifestyle, physical wellness, and more, in order to preserve and prolong wellness.

The survey also showed that these HCIs spend between Rs 4,000 and Rs 10,000 on various preventive healthcare procedures each year and that they are prepared to spend up to 50 percent more in the future.

Over the past three years, more than 40 startups focused on preventive healthcare technology (HealthTech) have raised about USD 1 billion in funding to capitalise on the market for preventive health in areas like condition management, lifestyle monitoring, health checkups, and mental and physical wellness.
