India's industrial output increased by 1.7 pc in February

According to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Tuesday, India's industrial output increased by 1.7 percent in February, compared to a 3.2 percent decline in the same month a year ago, owing primarily to improved performance in the mining and electricity sectors.

The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) increased by 1.5 percent in January, whereas industrial output increased by 0.7 percent in December 2021.

According to government data, the mining industry grew by 4.5 percent in February 2022, compared to a contraction of 4.4 percent in February 2021. In February, the manufacturing sector grew by 0.8 percent, compared to a decrease of 3.4 percent the previous month.

Power generation increased by 4.5 percent in February 2022, compared to 0.1 percent in the same month the previous fiscal year.

In the April-February period, IIP growth was 12.5 percent, compared to a contraction of 11.1 percent in the same period the previous year.
